Science and Technology Department
The Departamento de Ciência e Tecnologia (DCT) of Universidade Portucalense (UPT), located at Asprela, Oporto, is recognized for the quality of its courses and for the employability of its graduates, presenting a sustained training offer in computer courses, and information technologies. The department has a qualified teaching staff, holders of PhDs in universities of reference, which introduces a dynamic and plural set of visions that enrich training and research. All of its courses are accredited by A3ES (Agência de Avaliação e Acreditação do Ensino Superior).
The quality and professional relevance of the training offered by the DCT is reflected by a high degree of recognition by the employers and stems from the quality and rigor of the basic training of students in the areas of informatics and information technologies, contextualized in an environment that provides entrepreneurship and internationalization, in particular through the Erasmus program and the participation in international projects. The DCT also values the transfer of knowledge to society, fostering active participation in the creation of new companies through NET-UPT incubator and promoting the dissemination of knowledge through workshops, seminars and conferences.
Its research activity is part of the multidisciplinary research center REMIT – Research on Economics, Management and Information Technologies, evidencing its activity in the realization of research projects and publication of scientific papers in the most diverse media, namely journals and international scientific conferences.
The DCT has in its genesis the Department of Informatics (1986), one of the pioneers in Portugal. The department was, is and will be an active participant in the creation and transmission of knowledge, fundamental and applied, in one of the areas of science whose evolution is "vertiginous" and that contributes greatly to other areas of knowledge, always with a constant perspective of innovation and enrichment sustained in all its aspects of performance. The DCT also actively contributes to the unique environment of studying or working at UPT, where the academic environment provides a relaxed but responsible experience with a well-defined purpose, to contribute to the improvement, and qualitative transformation of society.
